Explore Tinos

Tinos is the sacred island of Virgin Mary “who makes big favors” (Megalohari), and the birthplace of many great, modern Greek sculptors and painters. The island today has over 40 beautiful inhabited villages, 1000 chapels built on the slopes and peaks of hills, about a thousand dovecotes built in the ravines and valleys of the island – considered as masterpieces of folk craftsmanship – and dozens of underactive windmills. The surface of the whole island is engraved by thousands kilometers of drywalls, used as an optimal way to cultivate the soil in the past, that make the landscape of Tinos truly unique.

As the “Island of Virgin Mary”, Tinos is the largest pilgrimage place in Greece. For this reason, most Greek visitors come only for one day or two, and do not extend their stay. Thus, they ignore the many beauties of the island.

There are more than 40 whitewashed traditional villages, built with Cycladic architecture, scattered in the exceptional setting of contrast between a stony landscape and the green of nature. 194 square kilometers, with dozens of wonderful beaches and crystal clear waters, taverns and restaurants in the picturesque harbors, folk museums with handmade products in the villages and the Port of the island are awaiting visitors to be discovered.

There are endless options even for the most demanding visitors: car and bus tours, sea excursions, intense nightlife, museums and antiquities, traditional festivals and a variety of cultural events in the villages and the town of Tinos. Local ferries give visitors the opportunity to see neighboring islands: Mykonos, Delos and Andros, in daily trips. 

Tinos is the island of the ancient and modern times that stands out with its striking beauty and civilization. Unlike Mykonos, it is quiet; unlike the ancient charm of Delos, Tinos is a treasure waiting to be discovered!
